Arriving by road - road works information
Road works have been arranged on the standard approaches to the University for the week of the NAM. It is therefore advisable to not follow standard signs to the University but instead take the following advice if arriving by road. The NAM venue is centred on Greenbank Building at the north end of campus, and you will be parking in the Greenbank Car Park.
- Coming from either the North or the South, leave the M6 motorway at J31.
- Following the A59 into Preston, after about 1 mile you come to a roundabout at which you should bear right (second exit) onto the road signposted Blackpool(A583), i.e. Blackpool Road. Do not follow signs for the University at this point.
- Drive along Blackpool Road for approximately 2 miles, passing in turn on the left-hand side Preston Fire Station, Preston North End/National Football Museum and Moor Park. At traffic lights at the western end of Moor Park (Observatory in trees on corner) you turn left onto the A6 Garstang Road towards city centre.
- At the first set of crossroads traffic lights on Garstang Road get across to the right lane in order to be ready to bear right at the second set of lights.
- At the second set of traffic lights take the right-hand fork into Moor Lane.
- After about 100 metres on Moor Lane turn right just after the University Tavern into Victoria Street; parking is in Greenbank Building car park second on the left.
Please note that if you intend to drive to the conference you will require a parking permit. If you did not request one at registration contact the Conference Coordinators as soon as possible.
If you miss a turn
- At the roundabout on the A59: Continue down the A59 and follow signs for the University and diversions around the road works, using the UCLan campus maps to make your way to the Greenbank car park off Victoria St.
- At Blackpool Road/Garstang Road: You will join a dual carriage way. Turn left at the next traffic lights into Plungington Road. Drive right down Plungington Road and you will be able to turn left into the opposite end of Victoria Street by Harrington Building.
- Off Garstang Road at the first traffic lights: if you turn right by mistake, you will be on Aqueduct Road. Turn left at the next traffic lights onto Adelphi Street, and you will come to the wrong end of Victoria Street.
- On Garstang road missing the turn to Moor Lane: There are plenty of places to turn round on the left-hand side. Turn round, head back North and go sharp left at the traffic lights onto Moor Lane.
- On Moor Lane missing the turn onto Victoria Street: Continue to the end of Moor Lane, go right around the (big) roundabout and back up Moor Lane.
